Some people don’t seek temporary financial assistance from places such as traditional banks, credit unions or credit card companies is the hassle. Perhaps, whether taking out bank loans or putting whatever debt you’re facing on credit, approval processes are long, drawn out and normally exclude a large portion of the population whose credit history isn’t exactly great. And even if you are approved to borrow money, most of these other avenues won’t lend you small amounts, such as one or two hundred dollars, to hold you over until your next payday or cover the cost of a minor, yet urgent, car repair. When you apply for financial assistance with the help of payday loan, most lenders never performing credit checks before making an approval decision. Most of the lenders also do not require faxing of documents.

Hi, have you had a look at Expensure's competitor, Scred? Expensure does a nice effort with the look of their site (something we are still working on) but, unlike them, we also do actual currency conversion and we have a version that runs on most mobile phones, even when not connected to anything. Both essential features if you're travelling. Plus you can register debts outside pools (what Expensure calls ledgers).

I agree. payments = network + risk management + consumer service IMO (?). Risk management costs can be reduced by leveraging the information in social networks (ex. why do I need to pay intermediaries a % for insurance if I know my friend/customer is going to pay b/c I know him/her) as well as by using more reliable authentication schemes. Network is where SEPA can help, although I think it's much more profitable for multinational banks to build their own in-house european-wide SEPA and sell it to merchants.

That said, I think the power is going to move from the network owners to the consumer service owners i.e. the apps driving the payments rather than the payment infrastructure itself.
